Zafiro has a background in both traditional education and out-of-school-time programs and brings a wealth of youth development knowledge to her role here at Camp Fire. Her bright and enthusiastic nature is a great addition to our team!

Check out our recent interview with Zafiro here:

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I am from Tucson, Arizona. This is why I chose Sonora as my Summer Kids camp name- it is an homage to the Sonoran Desert that surrounds Tucson!

HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?

I'd describe myself as energetic, open-minded, and nurturing.

WHAT LED YOU TO WORKING WITH CAMP FIRE?

I've worked both as a traditional educator and a summer program leader. For a while, I've wanted to combine the two approaches and Camp Fire's philosophy of experiential learning ticked that box for me!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PART OF CAMP FIRE AND IN WHAT WAYS?

This is my first summer with Camp Fire. I'm the Assistant Director for SummerKids and will take over as Director at the end of the summer.

WHY DO YOU LIKE WORKING WITH CAMP FIRE? HOW DOES IT IMPACT YOU? OR FEED YOU?

I like the people of Camp Fire! Their work ethic and warmth are inspiring and they have made me feel welcome not only in the company, but also in Bend!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF "CAMP”?

I love hanging out and chatting with the campers; they are funny and full of great ideas! I also enjoy collaborating with our creative counselors.

WHAT ARE YOUR “SPARKS”?

Working with kids, singing, the outdoors, good friends, languages, and traveling.

WERE YOU INSPIRED BY AN ADULT MENTOR? HOW?

I was mentored by a music teacher. Not only did she teach me the necessities of singing and performing, but she nurtured and helped me to be confident, independent, and to have a strong work ethic. I hope to mentor young people in the same way!
