Camp Fire Hosts First-Ever ‘Family Discovery Day’ for South County Kids and Families
Camp Fire invites South County families and youth to experience Camp Fire Afterschool in action through a free afternoon of fun, Sept. 10 in La Pine and Sunriver/Three Rivers.
Bend, Ore., September 5, 2025 — South County families looking for affordable, fun and flexible afterschool options for Grades K-5 are officially invited to come experience Camp Fire Afterschool through its first-ever “Family Discovery Day” on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025. The big event is free and will feature games, activities, refreshments, information booths, and more. It runs from 1:00-5:30 p.m. at both of its two South County locations:
- Rosland Elementary, 52350 Yeager Dr, La Pine, OR 97739
- Three Rivers School, 56900 Enterprise Dr, Sunriver, OR 97707
Camp Fire Afterschool (CFA) Family Discovery Day evolved out of the nonprofit youth organization’s desire to celebrate CFA’s one-year anniversary in South County as well as to raise awareness about the program’s signature benefits and communicate the value of its robust financial assistance program. Youth and families will have a chance to engage in discovery stations to get a feel for what the afterschool program offers, mix and mingle with Camp Fire staff and current afterschool participants, plus learn what’s special about Camp Fire. Anyone interested in registering for afterschool or No School Day Camp programs can do so on the spot.
“Last year, we were incredibly honored to be asked by the Bend-La Pine School District to provide afterschool and No School Day Camp programming to the South County community, and we jumped at the opportunity to do so,” says Kecia Kubota, Camp Fire Central Oregon’s Executive Director. “South County is a special place, and we feel an amazing connection with many of its families and youth. With our new Family Discovery Day, our hope is more families will get a sense for what their kids can expect in a genuine Camp Fire experience. We also want to remind people that our programs are available at or below the HUB pricing offered in years past.”
Stepping in to support CFA Family Discovery Day are a couple of community partners. Brown Bag Popcorn will be donating scrumptious, small-batch popcorn for the open houses. In addition, First Interstate Bank (FIB) staff members of Sunriver will be on hand, volunteering as part of their companywide “Volunteer Day,” an outreach effort designed to give back to its community through local sponsorships, donations, business development, and other volunteer efforts.
“Volunteer day takes place the second Wednesday of September every year,” says Cheyenne Tobin, who serves as a FIB Financial Services Representative 1 at the Sunriver location. “All employees pick their own service projects, which are planned locally and designed to meet the specific needs of our community. I am grateful to work for a company that makes giving back a priority.”
Free and open to the public, Camp Fire Afterschool Family Discovery Day is made possible thanks to First Interstate Bank support and volunteers. Please note: Youth not yet registered with Camp Fire Afterschool and who wish to experience Family Discovery Day must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver.
