Heather Loeffler, Volunteer Counselor: Why I Love Volunteering at Tumalo Day Camp

A Call for Tumalo Day Camp Volunteer Counselors, Ages 18+

Are you ready for the experience of a lifetime? Camp Fire Central Oregon is calling all fun-loving, adventurous souls to join us for an unforgettable volunteering opportunity at Tumalo Day Camp, also known as TDC!

Picture this: five days of outdoor excitement, filled with laughter, games, crafts and songs, surrounded by the stunning scenery of Tumalo State Park. As a volunteer camp counselor, you'll have the chance to unleash your creativity, plan thrilling activities, and make a difference in the lives of young campers. All this takes place under the pines, alongside the setting of our spectacular Deschutes River.

And there's more! Camp Fire believes in inclusivity and diversity, so everyone is welcome to join in the fun, feeling safe, connected, and truly themselves. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, an arts and crafts aficionado, or a

master of silly songs and gregarious games, there's a place for you at TDC.

As Heather Loeffler, a volunteer counselor who has volunteered with us shares, “Camp Fire has been so important in our family’s life. It’s taught us numerous survival skills, communication skills, and inclusivity and positivity…but also they’re just teaching kids kindness and what it’s like to just be a kid.”

Each day brings a new theme, perhaps Rainbow Day to Dress Like Your Parents Day, Space Day a

nd more, ensuring non-stop excitement and creativity. Under the guidance of our experienced camp staff and supported by our Counselors in Training (CITs), you'll lead your group of 8-10 campers through a variety of activities, depending on which age-group you lead.

And the perks? Oh, they're endless! From overnight camping adventures to free parking passes and supplies provided, we've got you covered. Plus, as a volunteer camp counselor, you can send your kids to camp for FREE!

So mark your calendars for our three sessions of Tumalo Day Camp: June 24th - 28th, July 22nd - 26th, and August 19th - 23rd. Join us in creating safe, inclusive environments where campers can thrive in the outdoors, find their sparks, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Because at TDC, the fun never stops, and the adventures are always just beginning! Apply here!
