Camp Fire Central Oregon | Light the Fire Within

2019/20 After School Program

We are excited to announce our new K-5 after school program for the 2019/20 school year!

Our after school program will run 5 days a week throughout the school year. Each day will have a different theme that meets weekly for six-seven week sessions and thread Camp Fire's research-based Thrive{ology} approach to youth development together throughout the week and over the course of the year. Participants may sign up for one day a week, or multiple days. Each program will have it's own unique theme through which youth will be able to explore their sparks, practice social skills, create connections, build community, and gain confidence.

Financial Assistance is available. Please do not wait to register if you need financial assistance. You will be able to complete your registration while your request is being processed. If you do not receive assistance, or the amount you do receive does not meet your needs, you will have the opportunity to cancel your reservation at no cost to you.

Registration is now open for our first session (September 4th - October 22nd)!

Program Outline:

We are still working out details for some of these new programs and specifics are subject to change. Please be aware that there is a chance that we may need to move some programs based on staffing as we get closer to the fall. We will always communicate this in advance and give you the opportunity to change your mind risk free if the day or topic change does not work for you. We will do our best to keep all changes to a minimum.

WHAT: We have outlined a schedule of general themes with the idea of offering as much variety as possible...there's something for everyone! These themes will become more specific and fleshed out as fall approaches.

Service Learning - Youth will participate in various service learning projects that incorporate youth voice and choice into being an active contributing member of the community.

Skills and Makers Crafts - Youth may be engaging in cooking, sewing, toy making, or other makers activities...all while learning some new skills and getting creative.

Nature Based/Outdoor Learning - Youth will learn about nature and the outdoors, with a chance for experiential learning as they explore topics related to nature in Central Oregon. Wildfire awareness, gardening, stream ecology, or other topics will keep the youth active while inspiring them to think about and interact with nature. Some days may include field trips.

Performing Arts - Youth will have an opportunity to get creative and explore aspects of performing arts, whether it be singing, dancing, comedy, or theater. Activities and roles will be chosen based on participants' interests and a final performance at the end of the session may be coordinated.

Visual Arts - Youth will participate in visual art creation. Projects may include drawing, painting, collage, and 3-D creations.

STE(a)M - Youth will participate in project-based learning that incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, art, and Math.

Tech - Youth will learn experientially about circuits and electricity, energy, robotics (through cubelets), doodle bots, or beginner programming.

Spanish - Youth will learn Spanish through play: songs, games, and fun projects. Learning Spanish will be exciting and fun in this very active format.
